Young Indigenous Leadership Program

IMPACT is a unique program building a community of engaged, determined and aspiring young Indigenous leaders. The program helps support students to complete Year 12 (or equivalent), links students into the community through social action projects, volunteering and networking opportunities and builds a community of likeminded young people from across the NT. The program challenges students to think outside the box, inspires students to be the best versions of themselves and opens their minds to the endless opportunities available to them. Along the way students build up their confidence, learn their strengths and passions, become resilient and learn to be leaders in the community.

Derek Forschinger Year 10, who is a member of the Young Indigenous Leadership Program IMPACT flew out to Sydney with NT students on the 1 week school holiday break just recently.

Derek had an awesome time which was quite educational and challenging with:

  • Challenges to talk to random people with questions in the street, some great responses
  • Tours of Sydney Harbour and the Opera House
  • Workshops on – confidence, self-esteem building and public speaking
  • Spoke to various businesses in the Sydney CBD area, Accentur, Landers & Rogers (Law Firm); and Xero (Accounting firm)

Letitia Ahnfeldt Year 11 – also a current member of the IMPACT program flew out to Melboure for the National Young Indigenous Leadership Academy.

Letitia’s experience and memories reflected on:

  • Identifying with my culture
  • Stand out of my comfort zone with speaking to groups on what I was passionate about and my project – which is helping young indigenous people to not be shame about their culture.

Letitia, formed a new NIYLA family down in Melbourne with students from other states of Australia.
