The canteen is open before school, during recess and lunchtime. Students are expected to queue in an orderly fashion. The canteen staff have the right to refuse service. Our canteen provides a healthy, reasonably priced menu. Canteen staff are happy to discuss special dietary requirements.

| School Captains are nominated each year by students and staff. Captains are presented at the awards evening. |
| Careers Advisor |
| The Careers Advisor is responsible for focusing and directing students towards career pathways. Specifically the Careers Advisor develops career pathway plans for all students in Senior school. The Careers Advisor can be contacted on 89880029.

| Electronic Student Profile (esp) |
To access your child’s records, simply go to https://esp.ntschools.net and log on using your unique ID and passwordissued by the school. From here you will be able to access your child’s enrolment history, attendance records, assessments, achievements, certificates, awards and sample of your child’s work. esp will help you keep in touch with your child’s attendance and progress for the duration of your child’s school life in NT Government Schools.
esp will keep student records safe. esp uses the same security technology as your online banking system. It is password protected and encrypted. Access will only be granted to the student, parents/guardians, teachers, the principal and authorised administration personnel within our school.

| Enrolments (Enrolment Form) |
Enrolment Procedures
To enrol a student at Taminmin, students and parents/guardians should:
. contact the school to make an appointment with the relevant Assistant Principal
. collect recent school reports and certificates to bring to the meeting so the student may be enrolled in appropriate subjects
. for students transferring from interstate, proof of identity/age is also required
. for students enrolling in Year 10, read about the elective options in the Curriculum section of this website
. for students enrolling in Year 11 or 12, read about the Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCE) and the subjects available either in the Curriculum section of this web site or in the Senior Course Handbook.
. complete the Department of Employment Education & Training (DEET) enrolment form, which may be downloaded here or obtained from the school (Download Enrolment Form).
. before using ICT facilities students and a parent or guardian must read and sign DEET's Acceptable Use Agreement for Students form available at the school.

| Homework Centre |
| Taminmin College homework centre is run from 03.30pm to 04.30pm Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students are required to sign in at 03.15pm in room 1.13 and will have a 15 minute meal break with basic food provided.
A free bus service is provided and departs the College at 04.45pm.

| Homework Policy |
| Students are required to complete all homework set by teachers. The type and amount will vary according to the unit/subject being studied. This is explained and described in detail to students by the specific unit/subject teacher. |
| ID |
ID letters are availalbe for all students who require identification. ID cards are also available for student to purchase. |
| Leading Learners |
| This elite academic program provides students with a rigorous program aimed at enabling tertiary enhancement. Entry tests for the program are held in Term 3 each year.

| Mind Matters |
The Mindmatters Project aims to enhance resiliency among youth, address bullying and harassment, increase understanding about mental health issues and support those dealing with loss and grief. Mindmatters provides the tools and processes to assist young people to problem solve and make decisions while encouraging teachers and parents to engage and build meaningful relationships with them.
Mindmatters Plus focuses on the prevention and early intervention of mental health problems for the 20-30% of students who have high needs and require further support.

| Orientation |
Strong links exist between Taminmin College and our identified feeder primary schools, with students being involved in the transition to high school over the latter part of their final primary year. Visits by primary schools and the orientation program all assist in the smooth transition from primary to high school. Families wishing to visit Taminmin College are welcome at any time and can make an appointment to tour the facilities and meet staff.

| Parent / Teacher Evenings |
| Parent Teacher nights are held twice a year and are advertised in the NT News, Taminmin E-News and a letter to parents. Parents need to make student appointments so that interviews can be arranged with their teachers. Parents are encouraged to attend to discuss their child’s progress with individual teachers.

| School Council (Members) (Meeting Dates) |
Taminmin College welcomes parents' participation, presence and partnership. For information on School Council membership and meetings please contact the school.
Taminmin College Council Inc. holds meetings each month. The meetings are open to the whole school community. The Council is made up of parents, teachers and student representatives and participation is encouraged from the wider community. The School Council's purpose is to provide a management base as outlined in the Education Act, which reflects the views of the whole school community. Parents are encouraged to come along and be involved.
Council of Government School Organisation (C.O.G.S.O)
The school has representation on this parent-based organisation which serves to protect the interests of Government schools throughout the Northern Territory and Australia. Taminmin School Council is actively involved in COGSO at a regional and territory level. The organisation is a link for parents and School Councils, which gives them a direct path to the NT Department of Employment, Education & Training (DEET) and the Minister for Education. It is affiliated with the Australian Council ofState School Organisations, which keeps schools up to date with national issues. COGSO represents committees eg Board of Studies. COGSO is committed to Healthy Collaborative School Communities.

| Special Education Teacher |
| The school engages in a wide range of sporting activities. Students are encouraged to participate in competitions with other schools and the school’s own lunchtime sports. Such sports include hockey, netball, basketball, Aussie rules, rugby union and touch football.

| Each unit offered at Taminmin College is assessed and communicated via a written report which is posted to parents and students twice a year. In addition to these formal reports, parents are welcome to contact the school at any time to discuss their student’s progress.

| Student Representative Council (SRC) |
The SRC is selected by students and staff, meets fortnightly and has input into the running of the school. It is also represented at School Council, generally by two members. The SRC members meet regularly with the Principal to notify its decisions and obtain permission/endorsement for its requests.
The SRC:
. represents students at the School Council;
. conducts special appeals – eg Timor, Red Cross etc;
. act as hosts & MC’s for Parent/Teacher evenings;
. is involved at a Territory level in student conferences;
. act as hosts and guides for exchange students and visitors to the school; |
| Student Services |
Home Liaison Office
The Home Liaison Officer is based at Taminmin College and also services the high school’s feeder primary schools. This officer visits, as appropriate, the homes of students experiencing difficulties affecting their education. The Home Liaison Officer also follows up students who have unexplained and continuing absences.
School Counsellor
The School Counsellor provides personal and life skills counselling. The Counsellor assists in the behaviour management processes in the school. Any member of the school community is welcome to contact the School Counsellor with concerns by phoning 8988 0088.
School-Based Constable
The Constable is a member of the school community and is employed to improve or consolidate perceptions and attitudes to law and order issues and the police generally. Parents are welcome to contact the Constable with concerns or information they may have. The Constable, who is based at Taminmin, is also responsible for the feeder schools in the area.
Aboriginal and Islander Education Worker (A.I.E.W.)
The AIEW works with teachers, students and parents to improve indigenous students’ attitudes towards study, attendance and further education. The AIEW also encourages parent participation in all school activities and School Councils. The AIEW also promotes the Homework Centre and other DEST programs.
School Nurse
Our Health Promoting School Nurse’s primary role is health promotion, health education and ongoing individual consultation, care and management related to health, medical and personal concerns of students.

| The school provides a textbook hire scheme to ensure our students have access to high quality educational resources. |
| Traumatic Events |
| Uniform |
All students are required to wear the school uniform in a neat and tidy manner. Students who do not comply with this code will have their parents contacted to either collect them from the school or deliver appropriate uniform.
Uniform shirts, skirts and pants are available for purchase at the School. The shirts were designed by students and are made of a cool light fabric. Hats and Cap designs were also selected by students and all students are encouraged to purchase them. Jackets are also available but are not compulsory.
The uniform consists of :
- Uniform shirt
- Uniform shorts, skirt or long pants
- Sports type shoes and socks
Sample uniforms are displayed in administration.
Students working outside in areas such as the farm or Woodside are encouraged to wear a hat. |
| Vocation Education Training (VET) |
Taminmin College is an RTO (Registered Training Organisation) delivering training to students enrolled at Taminmin and other high schools in the Darwin area.
Students complete industry qualifications which are recognised Australia wide and link to entry-level employment, apprenticeships or traineeships and further training. In addition to off-the-job training, programs typically involve a structured work placement where students have the opportunity to further their training in the work place. Students gain credit towards the NTCE for successful completion of programs.
An alternative mode of training is a part-time school-based apprenticeship which delivers nationally accredited competencies and involves a contract of training and paid employment while students continue to study at school. |
| Workready Program |
Taminmin College has available an alternative pathway to assist students in making the transition from school to work. The Workready course runs for one semester.
The Workready program involves students being prepared for entry into the work force, participating in vocational education and training [VET] and on-the-job training that may lead to ongoing employment.
Participating students in the Workready program will attend school on two days a week, studying English, Mathematics and Vocational Studies, undertake industry specific VET training on Wednesday, and gain on-the-job training with a host employer on the remaining two days of the week.
The program works in partnership with employment organisations, local industry and businesses.
Students wishing to apply for the Workready program are required to complete an application form and attend an interview with the School Workready Coordinator in order to be considered for the program. Contact 89880000 for further information. |
