We are located forty kilometres south of Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia. Established in 1983, the school serves the growing rural community of Darwin with a feeder area of over seven thousand square kilometres. We provide quality education and training for students in Years 7 to 12.
As well as a strong middle school program, Taminmin offers a comprehensive range of senior secondary and vocational courses, providing a variety of pathways for students in the post-compulsory years of schooling. Staff and students have access to excellent resources as diverse as industry standard ICT facilities, a mixed produce farm, a 150 hectare natural resource study area and an automotive and engineering skill centre.
Taminmin enjoys vigorous community support and involvement in a range of projects and the wider school community is proud of the many excellent achievements of our students in academic, vocational, sporting and community endeavours.
Our school is a full uniform comprehensive high school offering an outstanding Middle School Program that develops students academically, emotionally, physically and socially. A feature of this is an elite academic program - Leading Learner.
Our Senior School students are engaged with a rigorous and exciting curriculum ensuring successful transition to university, further education and direct entry to the workforce. The school’s cultural and extracurricular programs include our musical productions, Japanese exchange, outdoor excursions and scuba adventures. Our acclaimed choir as well as extensive drama and sports opportunities further enhance student outcomes.
Rural Environment
Taminmin High School is set in lush grounds in a beautiful and expansive rural environment. It incorporates a 75ha working mixed produce farm in the areas of stock, horticulture and aquaculture.
The school is committed to the preservation of the natural environment, maintaining 150 hectares of natural resource study area where students undertake research and practical studies in conservation and land management.
Wide Range of Courses
Our school is also a large Registered Training Organisation that delivers nationally accredited courses in areas as diverse as automotive, engineering, hospitality, multimedia, music, information technology, business and rural operations. New courses for this year will include construction and racing (stablehand), outdoor recreation and maritime operations. An exciting new partnership has been forged with the Australian Technical College Darwin allowing our students to not only complete their NTCE but also begin a paid continuing apprenticeship in identified skills’ shortage areas.
